Perception as a human cognitive system connects us quite directly to our immediate environment. This connection can be specified in objects, situations or events that, in some cases, belong to the organism itself. The perceptive system is actually composed of several subsystems that share the common objective of immediate connection with our environment but that at the same time use different mechanisms, normally called sensory modalities. The information coming from these different sensory modalities needs to be integrated in an appropriate way to connect and learn effectively from our environment.
